Spiritual Counseling in Madison, WI

Have you experienced a spiritual awakening? Have you experienced deep, powerful and profound spiritual realizations but struggled to integrate them into your daily life?

If your identity structure is fragmented from childhood trauma, transgenerational trauma or other unresolved losses, then no matter how deep the awakening, the false self will return and slow down the process of spiritual embodiment.  If you imagine that your true self is a ray of light and your identity structure is a mirror, when you move through the world you are reflecting the rays of your true self. If the mirror is fragmented into multiple pieces, then no matter how strong your true self shines, you will be unable to fully express your true self and maintain a consistent sense of clarity.  Consequences of a fragmented sense of self can cause people to get stuck in pitfalls on the path of awakening. These are some common places people get stuck on the path: the Winter-time of awakening (also known as Desert of awakening or Dark Night of the Soul), I got it I lost it phenomenon, and the Witness position.

With the help of an experienced guide you can move more fluidly through the many stages of awakening without getting stuck in unhelpful egoic traps.  Through my own path of awakening, I have experienced all of the places where someone can get stuck. I have also healed my own personal fragmented identity, to a degree that I am able to live from and rest as the truth of my soul, in the ground of being.  Though my process of awakening was arduous, its gift was to teach me all of the ways a person can get stuck; now I can help others learn to navigate their own awakening while healing their fragmented false self.

My Story

I had my first significant awakening experience during the spring semester of my freshmen year in college.  After I had been meditating regularly for a few months, one afternoon my personal identity fell away and did not return for about 3 months.  It was not until my best friend began to suffer a significant illness, that my personal identity returned. At that point, I associated the experience of no-self with my friend’s illness, with no context of what had happened to me.  I became terrified of emptiness and ran from it for the next 9 years. During that time, I meditated regularly. However, my false-self had co-opted my meditation and used it as a new technique to avoid emptiness and retain the illusion of control.  At the age of 25, I stopped running from emptiness and had another significant awakening experience which I followed with a silent retreat with Adyashanti. After my first retreat I decided that I would run toward my true self as fast as I had run away from it.  Over the next 7 years, I intensively meditated, went on many silent retreats, and did therapy twice a week. With the help of Adyashanti, Sharon Landrith, Mukti, Loch Kelly and my therapists; I was able to ground my realizations deep into my body and learn to live from my true self.  Recently Sharon Landrith confirmed me as a spiritual teacher in Adyashanti’s lineage. During that conversation, we discussed my unique ability to help people fully embody their realizations through a combination of Non-dual wisdom and traditional Western psychology. My calling is to help people fully realize their potential, guiding them through the process of their own awakening so that they can live from their true self and help transform the suffering of the world.  I believe the process of Awakening is the next step of evolution for humans. It is not special or only reserved for a few lucky people; it is every human’s birth right and I am here to help serve that process.

What is Spiritual Counseling?

Spiritual Counseling is a combination of Western psychology, Buddhist psychology, and Non-Dual spirituality. During sessions I will play two roles as your spiritual counselor: one, the role of a spiritual guide, and two, the role of a direct pragmatic therapist. Depending on your needs, we may discuss how to become more familiar and loving with your fragmented childhood self or your need to drop the story of a separate self, surrender control, and connect with your innate intuition. Along with your spiritual realizations, we will focus on learning to effectively regulate your emotions, grieve childhood losses in a healthy productive way, and to refrain from indulging in addictive, avoidant, self-sabotaging behaviors.
